The Independent Committee for the Supervision of Standards of Telephone Information Services
ICSTIS, the Independent Committee for the Supervision of Standards of Telephone Information Services, regulates the content and promotion of premium rate telephone services. It is a non-profit making organisation, funded by the industry.
Set up in 1986, the Committee is made up of nine members who are appointed in their individual capacities and who must be independent of the premium rate industry.
ICSTIS is responsible for setting and reviewing standards relating to the content and promotion of premium rate services advertised in the UK through its Code of Practice. It investigates public complaints, monitors services, recommends measures to achieve compliance with the Code and publishes information relating to its work. To this end, the Committee is supported by a full time Secretariat.
