simon armson worked for Samaritans for 20 years and served as Chief Executive for 15 years until June 2004. He was Chair of the Telephone Helplines Group from 1992-96 and saw its successful development into the Telephone Helplines Association. He also chaired the BBC Radio Helpline Advisory Group from 1995-98. He now practises as a clinical psychotherapist, and as an executive and development coach. He was elected a Companion of the Chartered Management Institute in 1995.

Simon ArmsonHe has been a member of many academic and government working groups in the field of mental health, with a particular emphasis on suicide prevention and self-harm. In addition, he became a trustee of ChildLine in 1999, a trustee of Broadcasting Support Services in 2003, a trustee of Mental Health Media in March 2004, and a trustee of National Nightline and of the Maytree Respite Centre in 2005. He was also appointed a Mental Health Act Commissioner in late 2002 before joining the Board of the Mental Health Act Commission in April 2004.
